Geode inspired design seems to be all the rage these days. I liked the idea of trying something that was perfectly imperfect, although I was stressing as much over imperfection as I do when I try to make something perfect LOL. The first photo here is basically step one in making the Bath Bombs. The tutorial I followed only showed the finished product, hopefully at this step they looked as bad as mine. Maybe that's why there was no picture ha ha!
So these are drying in the molds. You can't see here but I filled the molds a little over half then added some cosmetic glitter to make a sparkle line before adding more of the bath bomb mixture. I used 50/50 baking soda & citric acid with some fragrance and purple ultra marine (powdered) colourant. Because of the colourant, mica and glitter I was using, the salt I am adding is coloured with mica, I also added 1 tsp of polysorbate and I spritzed with rubbing alcohol as a dampening agent.
These dried in the molds and once they were good and dry I was worried they were stuck. A few wacks on the mold with a spoon loosened them and then they were carefully removed.
Sorry I don't have any in between photos, here they are after I added the salt, melted coconut oil, and painted the edges. The salts I added were white Epsom salt, and course sea salt that I had coloured with mica. I tried to arrange the salts with purple in the centre and white around the edges. Since these are not perfect you can see its a bit of a mish mash. Once I had the salt placed I spooned on the melted coconut oil. Lastly I painted the edged using both gold and purple micas mixed with rubbing alcohol.
I tried to get a picture of the glitter lines I made, you can see one here. They are different on every bath bomb. On the tutorial the bottoms on the bath bombs were painted with edible glitter, I'm a bit too lazy for that so tried this instead. Here is the link to the tutorial I used, I changed up the ratio of Citric Acid to baking soda but other than that I think I followed it.
If I try these again I'm going to try for a pink rose quartz kind of look, let me know if you give this a try or have any questions. Thanks for stopping by!
